First Friday Art Walk in Downtown Fullerton Celebrates 6 Month Anniversary on August 6th
Fullerton, CA (Monday, July 13, 2010) –Local art galleries and downtown venues are preparing to host the monthly “First Friday Art Walk” in Downtown Fullerton, to be held on August 6, 2010 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The incredibly popular Art Walk brings hundreds of art lovers and Fullertonians to fill the streets of Downtown Fullerton and various venues hosting art shows for the event. Families and art lovers are encouraged to come to Downtown Fullerton and enjoy an evening with over twenty venues offering free art activities and exhibition openings within walking distance of each other. Maps will be provided at each venue providing a guided tour. Free refreshments are also provided throughout the evening at many of the stops.
Here is some of what you can expect to see and experience:
Fullerton Museum Center Presents: American Trash/American Treasure: Art by Michael Leighton Coffey. Mr. Coffey’s assemblages pay homage to American pop culture and its ongoing struggle against mass consumption and consumerism. Please join us as we celebrate the art with thoughtful discussions and refreshments in the Foyer Gallery.
Graves Gallery Presents: Wildlife Art of Melinda Read. “My love for the ocean, cetaceans, pinnipeds, nature and other animals is what inspires me to paint,” says Read. A percentage of sales from this show will benefit the Sea Shepherds Gulf Rescue, who are working to clean and save the gulf wildlife affected by the oil spill.
Hibbleton Gallery Presents: “This is Not a Gated Community” featuring artists Jonathan Apgar, Erika Hickle, Natalie Lawler, Kristina Lee, Rachel Malin, Gabriel Arroyo, and Tessie Whitmore. This is a group show that aims to break down the esoteric boundaries of abstract art and to open up a playful, accessible and honest visual dialogue for its viewers.
Max Bloom’s Café Presents: “Postwar prosperity and increased leisure time triggered the popular pastime of paint-by-numbers in the early 1950′s. Max Bloom’s will display a variety of these vintage paintings from a private collection.”
OTTO Presents: New works by Fullerton artist Jenifer Hernandez. Marking her first local showing in five years, the display titled, “One N”, features mixed media paintings resembling textiles from India.
Out of Vogue Presents: Original vintage prints of artist Elaine Hanelock. Screened on paper in 1967, the posters can be described as old Hollywood meets LSD as they depict stars such as WC Fields and the Marx Brothers in a vivid psychedelic manner.
PÄS Gallery Presents: The Cave, an exhibition from the kids of Project Art School summer workshops. Opens August 6, 2010 6-10p with live music, the DittoSnaps photo booth and tons of fun.
The Violet Hour Presents: The Rangers of Metropolis: Burning Man 2010 and the music of Rory Cloud (in his last performance before leaving Fullerton.)
